Family estrangement is among the most counter-intuitive human behaviors.
Sometimes families become so dysfunctional that a family member decides that he can’t stay connected any longer to a specific person in the family or, in some cases, the entire family. Typically people who estrange themselves from family tend to be over the age of 18 years, because that is the point when they begin to reach adulthood and have more independence. I have counseled clients through the estrangement process, and have also seen clients who have come to see me after the estrangement has already been established.
The psychology of splitting from your family of origin
Estrangements from family are one of the most psychologically painful experiences anyone could experience.
It almost goes without saying that estranging yourself from family is absolutely counter-intuitive: Who, after all, would think to terminate a relationship with someone who raised you?
Sadly, the answer is that it’s typically only people (Mom in this case) who have been neglected, abused or exploited in some way who would pursue such a tumultuous split within the family dynamic.

Dear Friends,
ReplyDeleteOne in six Americans know someone who has been falsely accused of domestic violence. The silver bullets in divorce, false allegations are sometimes used to obtain child custody. This despicable act removes fit and loving parents from the lives of their children.
Please take a moment, as soon as possible, and speak out for the millions of children who are missing a falsely accused parent. And do it for the parents who are grieving for their children, stolen with a lie.
Find your senators here:

Take note of their party affiliation and phone number.
If your senator is a Republican, call, and ask them to support Sen. Grassley's Substitute Amendment to VAWA.
If your senator is a Democrat, call, and ask them to demand changes to Sen. Leahy's VAWA (S. 1925), to curb false allegations of domestic violence.
Do it For the Children, Stolen with a Lie
Thank you for taking a stand for affected families everywhere.
“Justice is a part of the human makeup. And if you deprive a person of Justice on a continuous basis, it’s really an attack (and not to get religious or anything) but it’s an attack on the human soul. We have, as societies, evolved ideas of Justice and we have done that because human nature needs Justice and it needs resolution. And if you deprive somebody of that long enough they’re going to have reactions…”

What about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
DeleteAttorneys stay away from anything involving psychiatric/psychological trauma, an "injury" no less important or less painful than blunt trauma, because of "Administrative State Rules" that protect their medical records and "notes" and the CAPS on medical malpractice awards .
A case involving a Florida man (never in military or law enforcement - a business major) who became depressed because of a "trauma-causing" sudden unforeseen and unexpected family estrangement sought help from company-offered employee assistance program that sent him to psychiatrist. Psychiatrist administered a procedure that Dr. later called a "surgery" in the billing of $16,000 to man's company-provided Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance. From this procedure and the 500mg of Ritalin, the doctor made him consume to perform the post-med part of the "surgery", caused the man to report 4 hours later to ER/hospital with severe chest pains. The ER doctor Baker-Acted the man which caused more familial problems and exasperated the man's depression causing an anxiety disorder to ensue. The man, a college graduate with a long steady work history, NEVER said he would hurt himself or others and has NO HISTORY (or anyone in his family) of mental health issues/disorders. A VERY well documented case. Seeking help as he has lost a $100+/K per year career, now not able to find job, and still suffering from injuries. Reported to Florida Dept. of Health; a current open case handled by Atty Alisha of the Prosecution Services Unit of the FL DOH
