2016 International Year of Co-Parenting

After the International Year of the Family in 1994 to remind us that the family is the basic unit of society and therefore deserves special attention,
Following the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly entitled "A world fit for children" (S-27/2, 6 May 2002) which recognizes the shared responsibility of parents in the education and upbringing of their children, and the importance of making every effort to ensure that fathers have the opportunity to participate in the lives of their children,
In noting a transformation of family patterns in recent decades characterized among other things by an increase in the number of separated families and therefore the risk of disengagement of a parent,
we ask for :
An international year to increase the awareness of the general public and all the elected officials in every nation on the equal importance of the roles of both parents – be they together, separated or divorced – in the upbringing of their child(ren).
A year to create opportunities and find solutions to promote and above all value the commitment of each parent to their children); a year to focus on action and results, by the exchange of good practices.
A year to rethink greater equity (particularly in parenting time) between the two parents in case of separation / divorce in the best interest of the child.
A year to recognize the prime role of each parent and celebrate the commitment of both parents towards their (s) child (ren).
A year to remember that each child has two unique parents - father and mother – with the same rights and responsibilities to provide the best possible living conditions, to give him/her affection, assistance and protection, education, to encourage the development of his/her personality, to transmit values.
In this perspective, regardless of political allegiances, social or religious beliefs, father, mother, grandmother or grandfather, or just a citizen committed to human rights, we ask the General Assembly of the United Nations to declare 2017 : International Year of co-parenting.

An attack against your human rights, your rights as a parent and your ability to parent a child. Hello Male Parents!

Comment posted on our Google+ Community:

Hello Male Parents,

I wish you well and hope you know that your not at all alone.

Life can give us skills whether we want them or not. In time, every father facing custody and court cases involving family law will develop a 'thicker skin' as we all know that nothing is more personal then an attack against your human rights, your rights as a parent and your ability to parent a child.

I would like to express a very important concept today.

This is extremely bold and progressive. I believe their is no 'movements' in the world today to change the opinion of culture in the way that will actually build up momentum.

I would like to give you an example*, Equality for homosexual relationships in the USA have become popular.*The example is not aimed to defame or harm homosexual couples in any way, simply a random example.

Single Male parents seeking Equality in Custody and Family law is NOT.

Who do you believe will be the first to win Public approval in the equality of raising children?

A large portion of Society will back gay rights to have two males or two females raise a child... Will Society recognize the human rights of a Male parent to have ABSOLUTE EQUALITY in custody decisions or family court?

The reason behind this is because Gay rights do not threaten the power of women as much as the concept of  ' MAN VS WOMAN '

Children Likely to Be Better Adjusted in Joint Vs Sole Custody Arrangements in Most Cases, According to Review of Research

WASHINGTON — Children from divorced families who either live with both parents at different times or spend certain amounts of time with each parent are better adjusted in most cases than children who live and interact with just one parent, according to new research on custody arrangements and children's adjustment.

Psychologist Robert Bauserman, PhD, of AIDS Administration/Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in Baltimore, Maryland conducted a meta-analysis of 33 studies between 1982 to 1999 that examined 1,846 sole-custody and 814 joint-custody children. The studies compared child adjustment in joint physical or joint legal custody with sole-custody settings and 251 intact families. Joint custody was defined as either physical custody — where a child spends equal or substantial amounts of time with both parents or shared legal custody — where a child lives with primarily one parent but both parents are involved in all aspects of the child's life. This article will appear in the March issue of the Journal of Family Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA).

Children in joint custody arrangements had less behavior and emotional problems, had higher self-esteem, better family relations and school performance than children in sole custody arrangements. And these children were as well-adjusted as intact family children on the same measures, said Bauserman, "probably because joint custody provides the child with an opportunity to have ongoing contact with both parents."

These findings indicate that children do not actually need to be in a joint physical custody to show better adjustment but just need to spend substantial time with both parents, especially with their fathers, said Bauserman. Also, joint custody couples reported less conflict, possibly because both parents could participate in their children's lives equally and not spend the time arguing over childcare decisions. Unfortunately a perception exists that joint custody is more harmful because it exposes children to ongoing parental conflict. In fact, the studies in this review found that sole-custody parents reported higher levels of conflict.

It is important to recognize that the results do not support joint custody in all situations. When one parent is abusive or neglectful or has a serious mental or physical health problem, sole-custody with the other parent would clearly be preferable, said Bauserman. The judges, lawyers, social workers, psychologists and other professionals involved in divorce counseling and litigation should be aware of these findings to make informed decisions of what environment is best for a child in a custody situation.

Furthermore, to address the question of how much the parents' emotional health compared with the custody arrangement influenced the children's adjustment, Bauserman explained that custody arrangement seemed to have more influence. By statistically controlling for past parental conflict (which indicates parental maladjustment), the joint custody children still were significantly better adjusted. This result was also found in other studies cited in Bauserman's review. More primary research is needed, said Bauserman, "on the past and current adjustment of joint custody and sole custody parents before this question can be completely answered."

FATHER AND SON MEET THEMSELVES GROWN-UP

...listen to their dialogue...
(click here to see the film)

Differently than in other videos on this site, this one does not deal with the consequences of the father absence, but tries to investigate its grounds.

A Father and his Child are often apart (separated) and even when not "physically apart", due to a divorce or to other reasons, they are separated in their look, affection, in their relationship. Their mind distance is preamble to a "final" physical separation. Many fathers don't make or complete the education of their children because they had not been educated and grown up emotionally, ethically, rationally by their own fathers too.

The father absence is a "wide phenomenon" and it has historical roots in the last century, a century comprising terrible wars and degradating working conditions, places very far from home and family, places where millions of men and fathers died (25 million military only during the II world war) or they got often shocked, wounded, made unable to continue their life and to play their social role with dignity

A long "non-chain", consisting of missing links. Such chain has to be rebuilt today by the alive and healthy people, because in such "connection" (roots, past, ancestors) there are important seeds for future life and happiness

What to do? - To "look at" the own father with new and adult eyes. If he died, it's however possible to unterstand him by imagination, memories and through the people left by him in the world. Many things will be discovered, such as (very often) that our father loved us, but he didn't know how to show it, and he closed himself off (his soul), loosing the occasion and the joy of growing up his children.

Happy end is not guaranteed, but Life of a child "honestly meeting" the father changes: rage and grudges cool off, an healthy "internal father" is built; the internal father will be a guide for the future, in order to become better fathers, like our father would have wanted, although he didn't tell us.
